Science Blog...just spent 5 min on your stupid bot verification, doing unlimited check boxes and every time returning to the verify check box. Then that stopped taking my checks. No more trying even to contact you...yours truly, a NOT BOT

The idea that our earliest ancestors might have been drawn to shiny, structurally interesting objects before they had any practical use for them is quietly profound. It suggests curiosity came before utility, that we were fascinated before we were clever. Which, if you think about it, is still how most good science works.

Lately within seconds of going to an article of interest from the email notification I see a blank space bottom of the screen, and the article behind it is grayed out. I see no way to change this (Mac, ARC browser) so am locked out of Science Blog newsletter articles. Please help, I'm betting I am not the only one in this state of FAIL.

Hi Fred, thanks for flagging this.

I use a Google Publisher tool that prompts readers to consider making a donation (I know it can be a bit annoying). My guess is that Arc, impressive as it is, is blocking or breaking part of it, likely due to how it handles JavaScript.

When the tool loads correctly, there should be an “X” in the upper corner that lets you close it. If that’s not appearing, the script may not be loading properly.

Would you be able to try whitelisting ScienceBlog.com so JavaScript is allowed? For what it’s worth, I run a Nord ad blocker myself and it doesn’t interfere with the Google tool.

One other possibility has to do with the Zoom function. I've heard if you have your browser magnification exceptionally high, that can nudge the close function offscreen in a way that makes it difficult to find. Please report back. If this doesn't work we'll try something else!
